Box Score PHILADELPHIA – In just his second match on Hawk Hill, sophomore transfer forward Isaac Agyapong scored the Hawks' first goal of the season in Saint Joseph's 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday evening on Sweeney Field. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-3 overall while Pittsburgh improves to 1-1-1.
Agyapong scored with just 37 seconds remaining in regulation on an assist from junior defender Kevin Lockhart. Lockhart dished off the ball from the near side, and Agyapong shot low to Pittsburgh goalkeeper Jacob Rooth's diving left for the score in the 90th minute.
Pittsburgh had put two away early (4', 7') and added another pair late into the first half and midway through the second (42', 69').
"We started slow," said head coach Don D'Ambra. "Pitt is a good squad and they took it to us. We completely weren't ready to play . . . It was a completely different game in the second half. We showed that it could have been a different game had we been ready to play. They showed that they could bounce back and play with some character and heart in the second half, and we did some really good stuff, but not being ready to play is unacceptable at this level. We have to learn from our mistake and get back on track."
For the match, Pittsburgh held a 13-11 edge in shots, including a 9-2 advantage in the first half; the Hawks took nine of their shots in the second half and landed four total shots on net, with two apiece from Agyapong and sophomore midfielder Kyle Lochbihler. SJU earned six of the match's eight corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper Greg O'Connell (0-3-0) made three saves in the full 90:00.
Saint Joseph's heads to Howard this Friday, September 9. Kickoff at Greene Stadium in Washington, D.C. is set for 7:00 p.m.
