ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team opened its final weekend of fall play at the Navy Invitational on Friday.  All matches were played indoors at the Tose Family Tennis Center.

“[The move indoors] was a bit of an adaptation for our players,” said head coach Ian Crookenden, whose Hawks have only played outdoor competition thus far this season.  “We are looking for better results tomorrow, when we have one doubles followed by two singles matches.”

In singles play on Friday, sophomore Scott Battaglia came away with a win over Navy's Seth McNair, 6-3, 6-4, to advance in the third flight draw.  Sophomore Beekman Schaeffer also earned a win in additional singles match, topping the hosts' Gabriel Pilones, 6-2, 6-3.

In the doubles draw, junior Andre Fick and freshman Sam Sauter were 7-5 winners of Romesh Kahatapitiya and Josh Martin of Navy, while junior Michael Santa Lucia and senior Tim Stierle outlasted Navy's Andrew Hicks and Walker Sims, 7-6 (4).  Senior Peter Dewitt teamed with junior Dan Tan for a 6-4 win over Battaglia and sophomore Luis Janko in additional action.

The Hawks will continue their stay in Annapolis on Saturday.
