EASTON, Pa. – Turning in a dominant performance on Saturday, the Saint Joseph's men's tennis team did not drop a set en route to a 7-0 win over Lafayette at the Northwood Racquet Club.
"It was a solid team effort, with close matches and tiebreaks going our way, that demonstrated that we have come a long way in our match fitness," head coach Ian Crookenden said. "Winning the doubles point set a confident note going into the singles and the momentum stayed with us all the way through."
Saint Joseph's (2-2) dropped just five points in doubles play, as junior Peter Dewitt and sophomore Tim Stierle took a 6-0 result in the first flight, senior Kyle Chalmers and sophomore Dan Tan won 6-1 in the second, and seniors Tristan Boustany and Valentijn van Erven were 6-4 winners in the third.
Stierle went on to win his first singles flight match, 6-4, 6-0, while Boustany was a 6-1, 6-2 winner in the third. Dewitt won his fourth-flight tilt in a second-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 7-6 (4), and Tan came away with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the fifth.
Sophomore Andre Fick won his second flight contest, 6-0, 6-4, and freshman Luis Janko took a 6-0, 6-2 result in the sixth to complete the sweep.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, February 18, with a match against Fairfield at the Springton Indoor Tennis Club in Media.
