MERION STATION, Pa. – After a tough loss on Friday, the Saint Joseph's men's tennis team bounced back in style, rolling past Siena, 6-0, on an unseasonably cold Sunday at the SJU Tennis Complex.
“We played solidly against a depleted opponent,” head coach Ian Crookenden said. “The weather was too cold to play doubles, so the match goes down as a 6-0 win.”
In the singles play that did take place, the Hawks were dominant. Sophomore Tim Stierle won his first-flight match, 6-1, 6-1, over Siena's Cameron Kirkwood, while sophomore Andre Fick defeated Matt Bellino by the same score in the third flight.
Sophomore Dan Tan was a 6-1, 6-0 winner in the fifth over Jace Koretz, while freshman Beekman Schaeffer topped Diego Lebron, 6-1, 6-3, in the fourth.
Senior Kyle Chalmers led Alessandro Saglia 5-0 in the second flight when Saglia retired. Junior Peter Dewitt also won his sixth-flight match in a walkover.
The Hawks return to the court Tuesday against Lehigh at the SJU Tennis Complex.
