MERION STATION, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's earned a close victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) is a tight matchup, 4-3, on Saturday.

After Saint Francis (Pa.) opened the match winning the doubles point for a 1-0 win, the Hawks picked up singles wins from Alex Zachem and Sarah Contrata to take a 2-1 edge,

Zachem was a 6-0, 6-0 victor at the fourth flight, while Contrata earned a 6-3, 6-0 win at the fifth flight. 

The Red Flash earned a win at the top singles flight to tied it at 2-2.

Having earned a walkover in the sixth flight by Katherine Devlin, SJU got the key singles win it needed to earn the team win,

At the third flight, Isis Gill-Reid battled through three sets for a 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 win.

"A valiant fight against a talented Red Flash squad," said SJU head coach Ian Crookenden. "The ladies earned their victory after dropping the doubles point quick victories by Alex Zachem and Sarah Contrata set the tone for a climactic finish, and Isis Gill-Reid closed out the team score with a very tense win in the deciding 10 point super breaker. The ladies now regroup before conference for La Salle this week."

Saint Joseph's (5-11) hosts La Salle on Tuesday.
