Vagnozzi's Late Goals Lifts Women's Soccer To Season-Opening Win At Bucknell, 3-2

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Saint Joseph's sophomore Gabrielle Vagnozzi's goal in the 85th minute lifted the Hawks' women's soccer team to a 3-2 win at Bucknell in its season opener.

Coming off a program-best 18 wins a season ago, the Hawks got off to a quick start taking a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute on a goal by Hannah Racis. Racis, who sat out the 2016 season due to injury, tracked down the rebound off a shot by rookie Kasia Kwitnieski and deposited the ball into the back of the net.

Saint Joseph's carried the 1-0 lead into the second half, but Bucknell soon got on the board as Meghan Holtz converted a penalty kick 40 seconds into the period.

The Bison's Jenna Marek gave her squad its first lead of the game with a strike at 61:26, but it would be short lived.

In the 71st minute, SJU sophomore Kylie D'Ambra took a pass from senior Lindsay Walder and snuck a shot inside the right post to tie the game at 2-2.

Nearly 14 minutes later, Vagnozzi would tally the decisive goal off a pass from Racis.

In goal, junior Grace Bendon made a pair of saves to earn the victory for the Hawks.

Saint Joseph's opens the home portion of its 2017 schedule this Friday versus Temple at 5 p.m.
