2017-18 Saint Joseph's University Athlete of the Week

Each week, Saint Joseph's University will recognize one of its student-athletes for their outstanding performances on the playing field. Below is the list of weekly award winners for 2017-18.

August 28, 2017 - Matt Crawford (Men's Soccer): Recording his first career hat trick in the Hawks' season-opening 3-1 win over Temple, the senior midfielder was recognized for his by performance by being named Atlantic 10 Co-Offensive Player of the Week. 

September 4, 2017 - Zach Michon (Men's Cross Country), Lindsey Oremus (Women's Cross Country): Both Michon and Oremus finished in first place for their respective races at the TCNJ Blue/Gold Invitational 5K.

September 11, 2017 - Quinn Maguire (Field Hockey): The SJU freshman was named Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week after scoring two goals, including the game-winner, in Sunday's 3-1 win over #22 Rutgers.

September 18, 2017 - Abigail Silva (Women's Cross Country): The Hawks' freshman garnered Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors after 13th in a field of 59 racers at the Rider Invitational.

September 25, 2017 - Anna Willocks (Field Hockey): Helping SJU to a pair of wins on the week, Willocks recorded two goals and two assists to push her season total for points to a team-best 19.

October 2, 2017 - Amanda Nava (Women's Tennis): The SJU rookie became the first freshman to capture the first singles flight title at the 2017 SJU Invitational.

October 9, 2017- Anna Willocks (Field Hockey): The Hawks' junior forward was named the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Player of the Week as she finished the weekend with seven points in a pair of SJU wins.

October 16, 2017 - Quinn Maguire (Field Hockey): Earning her fifth Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Rookie of the Week, Maguire scored seven points as the Hawks won both of their contests.

October 23, 2017 - Taylor Ryan (Women's Soccer): Scored the overtime game-winner versus Fordham to help the Hawks earn a berth in the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship.

October 30, 2017 - Dan Savage (Men's Cross Country): The graduate student placed seventh and eanred A-10 All-Conference honors after helping the Hawks to a second place finish at the conference championship.

November 6, 2017 - Field Hockey Team: Captured the 2017 Atlantic 10 championship and a bid into the NCAA Tournament.

November 13, 2017 - Alyssa Monaghan (Women's Basketball): The Hawks' junior guard had a career-high 23 points as she finished 8-for-8, and matched a program record going 7-for-7 from three-point range, in a season-opening win at Niagara.

November 20, 2017 - Taylor Funk (Men's Basketball): The rookie's 23 points led the Hawks to a home-opening win over Princeton.

November 27, 2018 - Sarah Veilleux (Women's Basketball): Helping the Hawks capture the 24th Annual Hawk Classic title, the junior guard/forward captured MVP honors as she averaged 19.0 points per game over two wins.

December 4, 2017 - Christian Roberts (Men's Track): Roberts made the first race of his sophomore track and field season a big one, clocking in with a collegiate-best time of 4:23.91 to take the top spot in a field of seven for his first collegiate win. Roberts' time was an entire 10.69 seconds faster than his fastest mile time as a rookie last winter.

December 11, 2017Sarah Veilleux (Women's Basketball): Veilleux finished with a team-high 19 points at Towson.

December 18, 2017 - James Demery (Men's Basketball): The starting forward finished with a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double in the Hawks' win over Maine.

December 25, 2017 - Shavar Newkirk (Men's Basketball): The starting guard led the Hawks with a team-best 26 points versus St. John's in the Basketball Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase.

January 1, 2018Sarah Veilleux (Women's Basketball): Posting a game-high 20 points, the junior wing helped the Hawks to a 79-41 win in their A-10 opener versus VCU.

January 8, 2018James Demery (Men's Basketball): Demery earned Co-Big 5 Player of the Week honors after averaging 18.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in a pair of conference wins.

January 15, 2018 - Chelsea Woods (Women's Basketball): Leading Saint Joseph's to a pair of wins, while averaging 19 points, 11 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game, Woods was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week.

January 22, 2018James Demery (Men's Basketball): The Big 5 Player of the Week, Demery averaged 22 points in a pair of SJU wins.

January 29, 2018 - Colin Gallagher (Men's Track): The SJU sophomore won the 3000m at the 2018 Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational

February 5, 2018 - Claudine Andre (Women's Track): The senior standout won the pentathlon title and high jump at the 2018 Frank Colden Invitational.

February 12, 2018Chelsea Woods (Women's Basketball): Tallying 20 points in her return to the lineup, Woods led the Hawks to a win over Rhode Island at at Duquesne.

February 19, 2018 - Claudine Andre (Women's Track): The senior captured gold in the high jump at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships and setting a new program mark of 5' 9 1/4” (1.76m).

February 26, 2018 - Shavar Newkirk (Men's Basketball): The Hawks' guard averaged 20.5 points per game on the week, and hit a pair of free throws with :14 left to help Saint Joseph's win at Richmond, 72-70.

March 5, 2018 - Chelsea Woods (Women's Basketball): Named to the A-10 All-Championship Team, the SJU starter set a career-high with 33 points versus VCU in an opening round matchup and helped the Hawks advance to the title game of the A-10 Championship.

March 12, 2018Shavar Newkirk (Men's Basketball): The SJU senior capped his career with a team-high 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the semifinals of the A-10 Championship versus Rhode Island.

March 19, 2018 - Dominic Cuoci (Baseball): The SJU senior hit safely in all four games he played, posting a .438 batting average to go with a 1.338 OPS, five runs scored, two home runs, and seven runs batted in as the Hawks won all four matchups.

March 26, 2018 - Mike Adler (Men's Lacrosse): The rookie goalkeeper made 15 saves on 20 shots to help the Hawks earn a 6-5 win at Hobart in their NEC opener.

April 2, 2018 - Andre Fick (Men's Tennis): The SJU junior went 2-0 at No. 4 singles on the week and teamed with Nick Ringle to go 1-1 at No. 2 doubles.

April 9, 2018 - Claudine Andre (Women's Track): The A-10 Performer of the Week posted a pair of wins at the William and Mary Colonial Relays.

April 16, 2018 - Men's Varsity 8 (Men's Rowing): SJU's boat was comprised of:  c- Jenn Reynolds; 8- Jack Darling; 7- Riley McGwin; 6- Garren Best; 5- Kjel Schlemmer; 4- Thomson Rymer; 3- Claudio Recchilungo; 2- Devin Swech; 1- Dave Gee - captured captured the feature event at the annual Kerr Cup.

April 23, 2018 - Caela Abadie (Softball): The starting first baseman earned A-10 co-player of the Week honors after hitting .562 and leading SJU to a 4-0 record on the week.

April 30, 2018 - Mike Adler (Men's Lacrosse): The redshirt freshman goalkeeper made 12 saves, including 10 in the second-half and a crucial save with less than two minutes to play, in the Hawks' 8-7 win at #18/20 Robert Morris.

May 7, 2018 - Varsity 4 (Women's Rowing): The Hawks' boat of c- Caitlin Kennedy; 4- Fiona McKee; 3- Demi Simms; 2-Kiernan Loue; 1- Sam Haines captured gold at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship.

May 14, 2018 - Tim Brennan (Baseball): The junior righty allowed just four hits and struck out five in a complete-game victory at George Mason.
