Women's Soccer Falls At Villanova, 1-0

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team dropped its first match of the season on Friday as the Hawks fell at Villanova, 1-0.

In the opening half, SJU (2-1-1) looked to control the tempo early but the host Wildcats (2-2-0) gained momentum first as they tallied seven shots to the Hawks' one in a scoreless first half as goalkeeper Grace Bendon made four of her game-high seven saves in the period.

Villanova broke the tie at 55:32 though as Amanda Vocelka beat Bendon on a one-on-one situation to make it 1-0.

The Hawks kept pressure on the Wildcats from there as they looked to tie the game. Unfortunately for SJU it couldn't break through despite outshooting Villanova 10-6 in the second half.

For the game, Michaela Finneyfrock led SJU with three shots.
