KINGSTON, R.I. - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team picked up its fourth straight win on Sunday as the Hawks topped Rhode Island, 5-0, at the URI Soccer Complex.
With the victory, the Hawks clinched a berth in the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship as they improved to 6-2-0 in conference play (18 points) and 11-4-2 overall.
Senior Dakota Mills opened the scoring for SJU in the 15th minute with the first of her two goals on the day. Off a feed from classmate Hannah Racis, Mills snuck a quick shot past the Rhode Island goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
Junior Kylie D'Ambra made it 2-0 in favor of the Hawks at 29:53 as she buried a rebound off a corner kick.
Ahead by two, the Hawks put the match out of reach as they struck for three goals in the opening 15 minutes of the second half.
Mills collected her second goal of the day in the 47th minute on a put back off a rebound, while Morgan Bower took a pass from Gabrielle Vagnozzi and drilled a shot from the top of the box that found the back of the net to make it 4-0 at 50:34.
Racis would add the Hawks' final goal at 59:47 off an assist from classmate Paige Bergman.
In goal, senior Grace Bendon made three saves on the day for the shutout, as the SJU defense limited the Rams to just two shots in the second half after allowing seven in the first.
The Hawks are back in action on Thursday when they head to Fordham for a 7 p.m. match.
