BRONX, N.Y. - Saint Joseph's sophomore Morgan Bower scored 5:29 into overtime to lift the Hawks' women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Fordham on Thursday evening at Jack Coffey Field.
In a match between two Atlantic 10 squads playing for postseason seeding, defense stood tall with only a combined five shots landing on goal.
For Saint Joseph's, it was the Hawks' lone shot on goal that proved the difference. Off a foul on the left wing, senior Paige Bergman lifted a free kick into the box. As the ball descend, rookie Mackenzie Ehresman deflected it, allowing Bower to pounce on the loose ball and deposit it into the open net for the win.
At the other end, senior goalkeeper Grace Bendon made four saves for her sixth shutout of the year and matched Allison Ebling's single-season record for victories with her 12th.
With the win, the Hawks (12-4-2) moved into a tie for third place in the Atlantic 10 with George Mason at 7-2-0 (21 point).
The Hawks cap the regular season this Sunday when they host St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m. Saint Joseph's will honor its senior class with a pregame ceremony before the match.
