Mills and Finneyfrock Lead Women's Soccer Past VCU, 2-0

Backed by goals from seniors Dakota Mills and Michaela Finneyfrock, the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team handed VCU its first Atlantic 10 loss of the season in a 2-0 Hawks victory at Sweeney Field on Sunday.

Behind two first-half goals, and two saves in a shutout performance by senior goalkeeper Grace Bendon, the Hawks improved to 9-4-2 on the season and 4-2-0 in conference play.

Mills got SJU on the board at 3:31 as she flicked a headed pass from Morgan Bower that snuck inside the right post and past a diving VCU goalkeeper.

Under 10 minutes later, Finneyfrock pushed the lead to 2-0 as she gathered a loose ball in the Rams' box and buried the ball into the left side of the net.

Saint Joseph's defense and Bendon would make the score stand from there as Bendon made saves on just three shots on net.

VCU moves to 10-3-0 on the season with the loss and 5-1-0 in the A-10.

The Hawks return to action this Thursday when they host George Washington at 7 p.m.
