The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team commenced its Spring Racing Camp and opened the season against Penn and Delaware on March 17, facing choppy water and a strong head wind on the Schuylkill River.
The Hawks' Third Varsity 8 captured the lone win of the day defeating Delaware. Saint Joseph's also rowed strong races in the Second Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 to finish ahead of Delaware, but behind Penn, which won every race but the Third Varsity 8.
"It was a solid day for us after a very difficult, but productive week. Penn is probably the fastest team that we will race all season, so it's a tough opener," said head coach Gerry Quinlan.
The Hawks return to the river next Saturday, March 24 to host ACC teams Boston College and North Carolina.
