Daly Scores 32, But Men's Basketball Held Off By #23 Villanova, 78-66

Saint Joseph's Ryan Daly scored a career-high 32 points, but #23 Villanova held on for a 78-66 victory despite a strong second-half charge by the Hawks on Saturday at Hagan Arena.

How It Happened
• Falling behind 41-25 at halftime after shooting 27 percent from the field, the Hawks quickly cut into the Wildcats' lead with a 7-0 run to start the second period.
• Daly scored the opening four points of the second half, while  a three-pointer by Lorenzo Edwards made it 41-32.
• Saint Joseph's continued to chip away at Villanova's lead as the half continued as a three-pointer by Cameron Brown brought the Hawks to within three, 63-60, at 4:51.
• Villanova pushed its lead back to nine, 73-64, but a bucket by Daly cut it to a 73-66 contest with 1:26 to play.
• The Wildcats held the Hawks scoreless from their as they scored the game's final five points.
• Villanova jumped out to a 9-2 lead to start the game, but Saint Joseph's clawed back as a pair of free throws by Daly made it 17-14 in favor of the visitors.
• The Wildcats answered back with a 12-0 run and allowed the Hawks to get no closer than 13 points for the remainder of the half.

• Daly's 32 points surpassed his previous high of 30, set at UConn earlier this season.
• Daly went 11-of-22 from the field, including 10-of-11 from the foul line, and added five rebounds and a team-high three assists.
• Saint Joseph's shot 38.5 percent from the floor for the game (25-of-65), hitting 10-of-37 in the first half (27 percent) and 15-of-28 in the second (53.6 percent).
• Villanova finished the game shooting 49.1 percent overall, going 27-of-55.
• From behind the arc, the Hawks shot 20.8 percent (5-of-24) with the Wildcats connecting on just 23.5 percent (4-of-17).
• Saint Joseph's was 11-of-13 from the foul line, with Daly going 10-of-11 and Rahmir Moore hitting 1-of-2.
• The Wildcats hit 20-of-22 from the line, including 14-of-15 in the second half.
• Edwards grabbed a team-best seven rebounds and chipped in with seven points.
• Brown went 3-of-7 from the field, including 2-of-4 from distance, to finish with eight points.
• Saturday marked the first sellout of the season for the Hawks.
