Baseball Welcomes Back Trio for 2021 Season

PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's baseball program is thrilled to announce that recent graduates Langston Livingston and Hayden Seig will return for an extra season of eligibility during the 2020-21 academic year.

The pair will take advantage of the NCAA Division I Council ruling that allowed for an extra season of eligibility for spring-sport student-athletes in the wake of the cancellation of competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, manager Joe Loonstyn will return for the upcoming season as well, serving in a graduate manager's role.  After joining the Hawks as a freshman, 2021 will be Loonstyn's fifth season assisting the Hawk program.

Livingston, an outfielder from Philadelphia, has appeared in 63 games in the Crimson and Gray, making 40 starts.  He has hit eight home runs as a Hawk, including two this season to tie for the team lead.  He also ranked second on the squad with a .471 slugging percentage in 2020.

"Langston and Hayden's return should certainly help us.  I believe both guys are seeking that breakout year," head coach Fritz Hamburg said.  "Langston's strength has seen a huge jump through his time here and he is certainly getting more and more consistent each week with his at bats.  Our hope is that he provides consistent power from the left side.  He's fighting for a spot in the outfield, but we feel that his bat puts him in the same position in the designated hitter role.  One thing that is for certain is that his maturity and leadership will make us better."

Hailing from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, Seig has made 47 appearances on the mound for the Hawks, including 10 starts.  He has struck out 107 batters in 87.1 innings of work, good for an impressive 11.06 strikeouts per nine innings, over the course of his career to go along with three victories and a pair of saves.

"Hayden has continued to get better each year," Hamburg said.  "Unfortunately, last spring, he had a bit of a setback which sidelined him for the start of the season.  However, he is ready to go and I am looking forward to seeing him compete, beginning this weekend with his first live outing.  He has always been a student of the pitching game. He understands what he wants and needs to do. He too has worked hard to add functional strength which should allow him to maximize and repeat his delivery.  Now it's just a matter of putting it all together; when that happens, he will certainly make our ballclub stronger this season."
