FORT MYERS, Fla. – Returning to the lineup after missing 25 games last season with an injury, Saint Joseph's
Taylor Funk scored a career-high 28 points, but Auburn held off the Hawks in overtime, 96-91, in the second game of the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off on Thursday.
How It Happened
• Down by as many as 11 points in the second half, Saint Joseph's fought back to tie the game on a pair of
Jack Forrest free throws with 3:55 left in regulation.
• After Auburn pushed its advantage back to three, 79-76, the Hawks took the lead for the first time since the early portion of the first half on a tap-in layup by Funk to make it 81-80 with just under a minute to play.
• Funk extended Saint Joseph's lead to 83-80 on a fastbreak layup with :37 to go.
• After a pair of Auburn free throws made it a one-point game,
Ryan Daly put SJU ahead 82-80 with a free throw.
• Jaylin Williams answered with a dunk for the Tigers to tie the game with :13 to play.
• Daly got a clean look for the win at the buzzer, but the ball missed its mark, sending the game to extra time.
• Saint Joseph's scored the opening basket of the extra frame on a Funk jumper and held a 91-90 edge at the 2:02 after a pair of free throws by
Greg Foster, Jr.
• Auburn pushed back ahead 92-90, but the Hawks had a chance to regain the lead in the final minute.
• Out of a timeout, Saint Joseph's got a look from behind the arc only to have the Tigers grab the defensive rebound and close the game out from the foul line.
