Saint Joseph's sophomore
Dahmir Bishop scored a career-high 20 points, however the Hawks dropped their Atlantic 10 opener to VCU, 80-64, on Wednesday afternoon at Hagan Arena.
How It Happened
• VCU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but the Hawks answered back with an 18-4 run as Bishop connected on a three-pointer to make it 18-8 at the 14:27 mark.
• The Rams responded soon after with a 17-1 run of their own to take a 29-22 lead at 4:36 on a jumper by Jimmy Clark III.
• Saint Joseph's got the deficit to within three, 33-30, on a
Taylor Funk layup, but VCU scored seven of the final nine points of the half to take a 40-32 edge into halftime.
• Funk connected on a three-pointer to start the second half, but the Rams pushed their lead back to nine, 44-35.
• A pair of free throws by
Myles Douglas made it 48-42, but the Hawks would get no closer as VCU pulled away.

• Bishop finished the day going 6-13 from the field, including 4-8 from behind the arc and 4-4 from the line in surpassing his previous career-best of 14 points, which he reached twice earlier this season.
• Funk was the only other Hawk in double figures as he finished with 10 points and added six rebounds.
• Making a start after missing the previous three games,
Cameron Brown grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and added seven points and two assists.
• Freshman
Jordan Hall handed out seven of the Hawks' 16 assists.
• The Hawks out rebounded the Rams 36-34.
• Saint Joseph's finished the day shooting 38 percent overall (19-50), 29.2 percent from three-point range (7-24) and connected on 19-25 from the line.
• The Hawks shot 45.5 percent in the first half (10-22), but were held to 32.1 percent in the second half (9-28).
• Vince Williams led five Rams in double figures with 17 points and added seven rebounds and three assists.
• The Rams shot 46.4 percent for the game (26-56), 42.1 percent from distance (8-19) and went 20-31 from the foul line.
• The Hawks are now 5-9 all-time versus VCU.
