DURHAM, N.C. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to North Carolina Central, 12-3, in Sunday afternoon's series finale between the two teams at Durham Athletic Park. For the weekend, the Hawks took two out of three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• North Carolina Central (4-9) went up big early, plating seven runs in the first two innings. The Eagles then added two more in the fourth to extend their lead to 9-1.
• Saint Joseph's (5-5) got on the board in the top of the fifth, as
Tim Cavanaugh singled home
Jake Artz. The hosts then added two more in the bottom of the frame.
• Cavanaugh added a second RBI the hard way, as he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh, forcing Artz home.
Brendan Hueth then scored later in the inning on a passed ball to cut the deficit to 11-3.
• The Eagles closed out the scoring on an RBI groundout in the bottom of the eighth.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Shane Davis improved to 1-1 on the season, earning the win for NC Central after allowing a run on five hits in six innings.
Lucas Rollins took the loss, falling to 1-2, after allowing seven runs in two innings.
• Cavanaugh was 2-for-3 with two RBI on the day, while
Nate Thomas also notched a pair of hits. Six different Eagles had multi-hit games on Sunday.
