FORT MYERS, Fla. – A late comeback effort ultimately fell short as the Saint Joseph's baseball team lost to Florida Gulf Coast, 4-3, in the first game of a weekend series between the two teams at Swanson Stadium on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• FGCU (6-7) took an early lead after scoring a run in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch.
• The teams traded zeroes until the fifth, when the Eagles doubled their lead on a double by Elijah Eusebio. A two-out, two-run double in the sixth by Cameron Krzeminski doubled the lead again to 4-0.
• Saint Joseph's (5-6) got on the board in the seventh as
Brendan Hueth hit a two-out double that plated both
Matt Cuppari and
Luke Zimmerman.
• Cuppari would halve the deficit again with two down in the eighth, singling to score
James McConnon, but the Hawks would get no closer.
