Trio of Hawks Earn Big 5 Men's Basketball Honors

PHILADELPHIA — Saint Joseph's redshirt junior Ryan Daly has been named to the All-Big 5 Men's Basketball First Team and recognized as the Philadelphia Big 5 Leading Scorer, while senior Toliver Freeman has been named Big 5 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and sophomore Myles Douglas has been honored as the Big 5's Leading Free Throw Shooter, organization officials announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Named Big 5 Player of the Week four times this season, Daly paced the Hawks in scoring, rebounds and assists in his first year on Hawk Hill. Starting 30 games, he led both the Big 5 and Atlantic 10 in scoring, and finished 21st nationally at 20.6 points per game. Averaging a team-best 6.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per contest, the A-10 All-Conference Third Team selection capped the year with 619 points, the eighth most in a single-season in Saint Joseph's history, while his 128 assists tied for 29th most alongside Luke Griffin (1977-78). Daly also became just the 14th Hawk since 1941-42 to average 20 or more points per game as his 20.6 ppg were the highest by a Hawk since Jameer Nelson's 20.6 ppg in 2003-04.

Playing in a career-best 30 games, Freeman provided leadership and versatility as he's worked his way into the starting rotation in 2019-20. Earning 19 starts and averaging 16.9 minutes per contest, the Baton Rouge, Louisiana, native averaged a career-high 5.7 points per game this season, while shooting a team-best 50.8 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent from three-point range. The first Hawk in program history to be named Big 5 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Freeman was named to the 2019-20 A-10 All-Academic Team and garnered both A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and SJU Athletic Director's Honor Roll recognition, and is also a member of SJU's Institute of Clinical Bioethics. Following graduation, the biology major will enroll in medical school as he plans to pursue a career as a physician.

Shooting 87.1 percent (61-of-70) from the foul line, Douglas is the first Saint Joseph's men's basketball player to earn the Big 5's top free throw shooting honor. Playing in all 32 games, while making 22 starts, Douglas ranked fourth on the team in scoring (7.8 ppg), tied for third in assists (43) and finished third in three-point percentage (.321).
