PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's
Jack Forrest scored a career-hight 25 points, but a late rally by the Hawks wasn't enough to overcome La Salle as the Explorers held on for a 90-83 win in a Big 5 matchup at Tom Gola Arena on Monday.
How It Happened
• La Salle jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but the Hawks responded as Forrest gave SJU its first advantage, 8-7, on a three-point play just over three minutes in.
• Saint Joseph's extended its lead to as many as 10, 31-21, on a Forrest three-pointer at 9:42.
• The Explorers responded with a 16-4 run to regain the lead, 37-35, on a Jhamir Brickus dunk with 5:00 to go in the half.
• Saint Joseph's pushed ahead 42-41, but La Salle scored the final six points of the period to take a 48-42 edge into the second half.
• La Salle used a 12-0 run to open the second half, extending its lead to 60-42 on a basket by Jared Kimbrough.
• The Hawks cut the Explorers' lead to 67-56 on a jumper by
Jordan Hall at 10:21.
• La Salle answered back with a 7-0 spurt and pushed its lead to as many as 21 points.
• Saint Joseph's put together a furious comeback in the final six minutes as a 14-2 run brought the Hawks to within 86-78 on a steal and basket by Hall with 1:03 remaining.
• The Hawks continued to chip away at La Salle's advantage as a three-pointer by
Taylor Funk made it a five-point game, 88-83, with 24 seconds to go.
• The Explorers pushed ahead for good with a pair of free throws in its next possession, and following a missed shot by SJU, dribbled out the clock.

• Forrest finished the day 9-10 from the field, 4-5 from three-point range and 3-3 from the foul line for 25 points.
• Forrest's previous career-high of 23 points came exactly a year ago, January 18, 2020, against Cornell.
• Hall finished three rebounds shy of a triple-double, filling the stat sheet with 11 points, a career-best 11 assists and a game-high seven rebounds.
• Funk was the third Hawk in double figures, finishing with 17 points.
• Saint Joseph's shot a season-best 52.5 percent (32-61), connected on 10-23 from behind the arc for 43.5 percent and went 9-12 from the foul line.
• Kimbrough led three Explorers in double figures with 24 points.
• La Salle finished the game 35-63 from the floor (57.1 percent), 5-12 from three-point range (41.7 percent) and 13-22 from the line (59.1 percent).
• The Hawks move to 70-61 all-time against La Salle.
