FAIRFAX, Va. – Saint Joseph's got a season-high 18 points from rookie
Jadrian Tracey and a team-high 19 points from
Taylor Funk, however George Mason outlasted the Hawks in double overtime, 87-85, on Wednesday evening at EagleBank Arena.
How It Happened
• In a back-and-forth first half that featured five lead changes and four ties, George Mason held a 21-18 advantage with 7:30 left in the period.
• Back-to-back three-pointers from
Jack Forrest sparked a 10-0 run by the Hawks as they opened a 28-21 lead on a layup by
Dahmir Bishop at 4:57.
• After going 2-8 from the field to start the game, the Hawks connected on 11-23 field goals to end the stanza and take a 34-30 edge into the second half.
• George Mason retook the lead early in the second half, 43-37, and pushed it to as many as 12, 58-46, on a jumper by Jordan Miller at 8:55.
• The Hawks chipped away at the deficit as a layup by Tracey brought Saint Joseph's to within 65-61 with 2:46 to play.
• Down 69-64, the Hawks cut it to a two-point game on a Funk three-pointer with 61 ticks to go in regulation.
• Following a defensive stop,
Jordan Hall found an open Forrest in the paint for a bucket to tie the game at 69 with :10 left.
• Behind strong defense, the Hawks forced a missed shot at the buzzer to force overtime.
• In the first extra frame, George Mason built a 76-72 lead, but Saint Joseph's fought back again.
• A pair of free throws by
Rahmir Moore made it a two-point game, while Tracey tied it at 76-76 on a layup with under 30 seconds to play.
• Saint Joseph's defense again stepped up, causing a turnover, but the Patriots recovered in time to block a crucial shot by the Hawks and force a second overtime.
• A three-point play by Moore 37 seconds into the second overtime gave Saint Joseph's its first lead since the early part of the second half, 79-77.
• After trading baskets, George Mason used a 7-0 run to build an 86-81 lead with 1:49 to go.
• Down 87-83 in the final minute, a free throw by Forrest made it 87-84.
• With less than 10 seconds to go, Funk converted the first of two free throws, but the ball bounced off a George Mason player to give the Hawks the ball down 87-85.
• The Patriots forced a turnover on the ensuing inbounds to thwart Saint Joseph's rally.

• Tracey finished the game 8-10 from the field and 2-3 from three-point range for 18 points, and added six rebounds.
• Tracey surpassed his previous season-high of nine points against VCU earlier this month.
• Funk finished in double figures for the 10th consecutive game, scoring 19 points and adding nine rebounds.
• Forrest finished with 13 points to go with a career-high nine rebounds.
• Moore was the fourth Hawk in double figures as he finished with 10 points.
• Hall matched his season-high with 11 assists and grabbed five rebounds to go with two points.
• As a team, the Hawks shot 44.9 percent from the field (31-69), 34.2 percent from three-point range (13-38), and connected on 10-15 from the foul line.
• The Hawks finished with 43 bench points.
• Javon Greene led four Patriots in double figures with a game-high 25 points.
• George Mason finished the game 33-76 from the floor (43.4 percent), 6-18 from behind the arc, and 15-27 from the foul line (55.6 percent).
