MERION STATION, Pa. – The 11th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team turned in a dominant performance on Friday afternoon, shutting out Lock Haven by a 6-0 score at Ellen Ryan Field. Five different Hawks scored in the game, while three tallied at least three points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (10-3 overall, 4-0 Atlantic 10) took the lead midway through the first, as
Anna Miller had her shot saved, but
Lily Santi picked up the loose ball and converted for a 1-0 advantage.
• Lock Haven (3-7 overall, 1-2 Atlantic 10) would earn a pair of corners late in the frame and force
Robin Bleekemolen into a pair of saves, but from there it was all SJU. Early in the second quarter,
Manon van Weezel found
Nika Hansen with a pass in front of the cage for Hansen's fourth goal of the season before
Sol Borensztein juggled clear of the defense and ripped a shot into the upper corner to send the Hawks into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
•
Cassidy Atchison tipped home a pass from
Freke van Tilburg on a penalty corner less than two minutes into the third quarter before van Tilburg got on the board herself five minutes later on another corner opportunity.
• Van Tilburg would tally her second of the day and close out the scoring on an assist from Borensztein three minutes into the fourth quarter.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• The Hawks outshot the Bald Eagles, 26-2, while putting 19 of their attempts on target. SJU held Lock Haven without a shot over the final 48 minutes of the game and has outshot its previous two opponents, Lock Haven and Saint Louis, by a 51-2 margin.
• Bleekemolen notched her sixth shutout of the season, while Joaquina Orlandini made 13 saves on the day for LHU.
• Van Tilburg's five points led the way, while Atchison and Borensztein chipped in with three each as well.
• The Hawks have now evened the all-time series with Lock Haven at eight wins apiece, with SJU having won eight of the last nine since 2015.
