PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team (1-0) heads across town on Friday night to take on the Drexel Dragons (0-1). Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. with the game airing on NBC Sports Philadelphia+ and FloHoops.
 
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • The Hawks head into Friday night's battle 1-0 after an 84-49 beat down of Maryland Eastern Shore. The victory is the largest since the 2017-18 season and is also the most points scored in a game since that same year.
  • Collectively, SJU shot 46.2% (30-of-65) from the floor and 41.7% (10-of-24) from deep.
  • Graduate student Katie Jekot led all scorers with 16 points on a 5-of-8 night, including 4-of-6 from long range. She also added four assists and tied a career best of four steals.
  • Rookie Talya Brugler was next on the squad with 14 points on a 5-of-9 effort.
  • Freshman Mackenzie Smith rounded out the double figure scoring totals with 12 points in her first career game. She shot a perfect 3-of-3, all from deep, and added three from the stripe.
  • Senior Lovin Marsicano neared the double-digit plateau with nine points on 3-of-6 shooting.
ABOUT DREXEL:
  • The Dragons fell in their opener, 52-50, to defending MAAC Champions Marist.
  • Older sister of the Hawks' Brugler, Tessa, posted a double-double with 12 points and 14 boards in the loss to the Red Foxes.
  • Hannah Nihill led the team with 14 points and added six assists and three steals.
  • Keishana Washington also reached double figures with 11 points.
  • Drexel shot 33.9% (21-of-62) from the floor, 21.4% (3-of-14) from long range, and 71.4% (5-of-7) from the line.
