Women’s Basketball Takes Trip Over the Bridge for Battle in the Garden State with Monmouth

PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team (1-1) is taking a trip over the bridge into New Jersey for a battle with Monmouth (1-1) on Wednesday night. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. from West Long Branch, N.J. with the game streaming nationally on ESPN+.
 
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • The Hawks enter play at 1-1 overall after a fourth quarter comeback attempt fell short at Drexel on Friday.
  • Junior Kaliah Henderson is the team's leading scorer after tying her career high with 20 points in the loss at Drexel. Henderson went 7-of-17 from the floor and a perfect 6-of-6 from the stripe. The Tampa, Fla. native is averaging 13.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per outing, while shooting 40.0% from the field.
  • Rookie Talya Brugler is second on the team in scoring. She's averaging 10 points per outing after a 14 point and six-point performance in her first two career games.
  • Graduate student Alayna Gribble tops the Hawks in rebounding with 6.0 per game. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native tied her career high with six boards in each of the first two games. She adds 8.5 points per contest to her stat line on 43.8% shooting.
  • Graduate student Katie Jekot runs the point for SJU and is a threat from deep. The guard is third on the roster with 9.0 points per game and paces the squad with 5.0 assist per outing.
ABOUT MONMOUTH:
  • Monmouth, also nicknamed the Hawks, are 1-1 this season under first year head coach Ginny Boggess. Boggess spent the prior two years at Penn State.
  • To begin the 2021-22 campaign, the Hawks fell to Syracuse (87-46) on the road and rebounded with a win in their home opener against Navy (57-46).
  • Jania Hall and Arian Vanderhoop are tied atop the team with 8.0 ppg.
  • Stella Clark is third with 6.5 points and leads Monmouth with 7.5 rebounds per outing.
