Men's Basketball Drops Thriller To Drexel, 78-75

Saint Joseph's Jordan Hall finished with 20 points and Taylor Funk added 18, but the Hawks had their season-opening win streak snapped by reigning CAA champion Drexel in a 78-75 thriller at Hagan Arena on Wednesday evening.

How It Happened
• In a back-and-forth start that saw five lead changes, Funk tied the game at 24-24 on a three-pointer with 4:04 to play in the first half.
• Drexel finished the half on a 10-6 run to take a 34-30 edge into halftime.
• The Dragons pushed ahead by as many as eight points in the second period, but St. Joe's fought back to tie the game at 66-66 as Funk knocked down three free throws after being fouled on a three-pointer.
• Tied at 70, Drexel's Xavier Bell put the visitors ahead 72-70 on a basket with just over two minutes to play.
• Hall answered back for the Hawks, scoring inside to tie the game at 72 apiece.
• Both teams failed to score in their next two possessions, but a jumper by Camren Wynter gave the Dragons a 74-72 lead with :35 to go.
• Following a missed shot by Saint Joseph's, Wynter hit one of two free throws, giving the Hawks the ball back with :19 to play.
• On the ensuing possession, Hall found Ejike Obinna for an alley-oop to make it a 75-74 contest.
• Each team connected on 1-of-2 free throws in their next offensive possessions, with James Butler extending the Drexel lead to 78-75 on a free throw with four seconds left.
• Saint Joseph's game-tying three by Erik Reynolds II barely missed its mark at the buzzer.

Inside The Boxscore
• Hall added a team-high seven rebounds and six assists to go with a season-best 20 points.
• Funk continued his strong offensive start to the season as he went 6-of-12 from the floor, 3-of-5 from three-point range and 3-of-3 from the foul line for 18 points.
• Reynolds II finished in double figures for the second straight game as he scored 13 points.
• Wednesday's contest featured five lead changes and eight ties.
