Women’s Basketball Hosts Villanova for First Big 5 Game of the Season

PHILADELPHIA –
The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team (1-2) are set to host Villanova (0-2) in the teams' first Big 5 matchup of the season. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m. and will stream nationally on ESPN+ and internationally through the Atlantic 10.
 
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • The Hawks are 1-2 on the season after a loss on the road at Monmouth this past Wednesday, 57-45.
  • Junior Kaliah Henderson leads the Hawks in scoring with 14.0 ppg and is second in rebounding with 6.3 rpg. The Tampa, Fla. native posted a double-double in the loss at Monmouth with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She's tallied 16 or more points in her last two outings.
  • Graduate student Katie Jekot, who missed Wednesday's game at Monmouth, is second on the team with 9.0 points per outing. Jekot also leads the team with 5.0 assists on average.
  • Rookie Talya Brugler (8.7 ppg) and graduate student Alayna Gribble (7.7 ppg) round out the top four scorers. Gribble also adds a team best 6.7 rpg after tying her career high with six rebounds in each of the first two games, followed by a career high eight against Monmouth.
  • Freshman Julia Nyström played her best game of the season against Monmouth in a season high 27 minutes. She scored seven points and handed out four assists.
ABOUT VILLANOVA:
  • The Wildcats enter play at 0-2 after losses to Princeton and Maryland.
  • Villanova is led by Brianna Herlihy with 14.0 points per outing on 52.4% shooting.
  • Lior Garzon (10.5) and Maddy Siegrist (10.5) are the other two double digit scorers on the team. Siegrist also leads the Wildcats with 7.5 rebounds on average.
