PHILADELPHIA – Sparked by a 30-point performance from
Ryan Daly and the fourth triple-double in Saint Joseph's history courtesy of rookie
Jordan Hall, the Hawks forced overtime versus La Salle in the final moments of regulation, then pulled away from the Explorers in the extra frame for a 91-82 victory on Saturday at Hagan Arena.
How It Happened
• Down 77-75 with 4.5 seconds to go in the second half, Hall grabbed a defensive rebound and went the length of the court for a game-tying layup that La Salle was whistled for a goaltending on, forcing overtime.
• La Salle's Christian Ray scored the first basket of overtime to give La Salle a 79-77 lead.
• Saint Joseph's responded scoring 12 of the next 13 points.
• Daly scored the first nine points to spark the charge, and Hall put the exclamation on the game with a three-pointer with 46 seconds to play.
• In the first half, La Salle led 10-5 early, but a 6-0 run by the Hawks gave SJU its first advantage, 11-10, on a three-pointer by
Taylor Funk.
• The Explorers responded with seven consecutive points to retake the lead, 17-11.
• Down 31-24, Saint Joseph's ended the first half on a 13-3 run to take a 37-34 edge into halftime.
• Carrying momentum into the second half, the Hawks pushed their lead to as many as eight, 50-42, on a
Cameron Brown three-pointer at 16:46.
• La Salle chipped away at Saint Joseph's lead and opened a 68-65 advantage of its own on a Ray three-pointer with 6:25 to play.
• A pair of free throws by Hall sparked a 10-0 run by the Hawks as a Daly bucket made it 75-68 with under four minutes to go.
• The Explorers answered again though, scoring eight straight points to retake the lead, 76-75, on a Ray layup at :27.
• Saint Joseph's couldn't get its shot to fall in its next possession, as Sherif Kenney grabbed the defensive rebound and was fouled with :04.5 remaining.
• Kenney made the first free throw to extend the Explorers' lead to 77-75, but missed the second, leading to the frantic final moments and eventual overtime.
