MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team suffered its first defeat of 2021 as Davidson topped the Hawks, 6-1, at the SJU Tennis Complex on Saturday.
Stow Weiss scored the lone point for the Hawks, coming away with a win in the second singles flight.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Davidson (4-6 overall, 1-1 Atlantic 10) grabbed the early lead by virtue of sweeping all three doubles matches.
• The Wildcats would then go on to win the first five singles matches to be completed before Weiss snagged a point for Saint Joseph's (3-1 overall, 0-1 Atlantic 10) with a 1-6, 7-6 (5), 14-12 win in a supertiebreaker.
HAWK TALK
"It was a competitive match against one of the more evenly balanced squads in the conference," head coach
Ian Crookenden said. "It was our first match outdoors, and obviously Amanda did not have a good day, but Stow had a great day. Another excellent performance by our freshman, Fabiana, and the first competitive singles match for Anna in over a year.
"I am very pleased with the improvement over our 0-7 score last year that ended our spring season, and any other match play, until the spring of 2021. We will continue to grow and learn and improve. I have a very talented and dedicated squad, which is a pleasure to work with."
UP NEXT
The Hawks will hit the road for the first time as they head to Rider on Wednesday.
