Saint Joseph's senior
Sofia Filippo scored her first goal of the season as the Hawks' women's soccer team battled #7 West Virginia for 90 minutes on Sweeney Field on Sunday. The highest ranked opposing squad to ever visit Hawk Hill, the Mountaineers however prevailed in the end, 3-1.
How It Happened
• West Virginia's Alina Stahl opened the scoring at 9:41 as she dribbled down the left wing and snuck a shot past the Hawks' goalkeeper
Katie Cappelletti, who came out to challenge.
• Julianne Vallerand extended the Mountaineers lead less than 10 minutes later as her shot from the left side of the box deflected off a SJU defender and snuck inside the far post to make it 2-0.
• Fillippo brought the Hawks to within 2-1 at 46:34 as she took a pass from
Jaydin Avery inside the West Virginia box and blasted a shot past the Mountaineers' goalkeeper.
• West Virginia responded less than a minute later as Stahl deposited a rebound into an empty net to put her team on top 3-1.

• With today's goal, Filippo moved to three points on the season (goal and an assist).
• Avery's assist was her first of the year.
• In her collegiate debut, Cappelletti made 12 saves for the Hawks.
• West Virginia finished with a 22-3 edge in shots and 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
