MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team finished off a four-game sweep of UMass to start off Atlantic 10 play with a pair of wins at Smithson Field on Saturday afternoon. In the opener, the Hawks used four home runs and a strong outing from
Ryan Devine to clinch the series with a 10-2 win. In the nightcap, a five-run second inning put the Hawks in front for good en route to a 6-1 win and the doubleheader sweep.
GAME 1: Saint Joseph's 10, UMass 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
• A pair of wild pitches by Zack Given gave Saint Joseph's (9-6 overall, 4-0 Atlantic 10) a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
•
Nate Thomas made it a 5-0 lead in the third with his second three-run home run in as many days.
Brendan Hueth then singled in a run later in the inning to extend the lead.
• The Hawks would add to the lead with home runs in each of the next three innings, as
Andrew Cossetti and Hueth hit solo shots in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, before
Liam Bendo hit a two-run shot in the sixth to make it 10-0.
• UMass (7-17 overall, 0-4 Atlantic 10) would score a pair of consolation runs in the seventh on single by Michael Rounds.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Devine danced around some early trouble to take a no-hitter into the sixth inning. All told, he allowed just one hit and struck out four in six innings for the win. Given allowed four runs on three hits in two-plus innings to take the loss.
• Hueth and Cossetti had two hits apiece in the game; Bendo, Cossetti, and
Luca Trigiani each scored a pair of runs as well.
GAME 2: Saint Joseph's 6, UMass 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Hawks once again went ahead in the second, this time plating five runs to grab control of the game early. A balk by Tyler Dalton brought home
Ryan Picollo to give the Hawks the lead before a double from Hueth scored Bendo to make it 2-0.

Jake Artz then followed with an RBI single of his own before Thomas hit a two-run double to extend the margin to 5-0.
• Jake Given would get the Minutemen on the board with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, but a double from Hueth, his third of the game, got the run back and set the final score.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE

Lucas Rollins allowed one run on two hits, walking three and striking out none, in five innings to earn the win. Dalton allowed five runs on seven hits in three innings to take the loss.
• Hueth finished the game 3-for-4 with three doubles, while Thomas was 2-for-4 with a pair of two-baggers of his own. Each drove in two runs as well.

The Hawks will head to St. Bonaventure for a four-game weekend series beginning on Friday.
