Grana, Kahlenbeck Voted onto Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer All-Academic Team

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For the third year in a row, Saint Joseph's senior defender David Grana has been voted onto the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team in voting conducted by the league's Sports Information Directors, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon. Senior midfielder Alan Kahlenbeck has also earned a spot on the A-10 All-Academic Team.

Grana and Kahlenbeck are two of 11 selections across the league to earn All-Academic honors as a "starter or key contributor with a GPA of 3.0 or higher."

Grana started all seven of his matches played this season, averaging 88.5 minutes per match. For his career, Grana was a four-year defensive starter for the Crimson and Gray, with 60 matches played (58 starts) and 11 points on four goals and three assists in 5,209 minutes. A two-time Academic All-American, the biology major plans to pursue medical school following graduation next month.

Kahlenbeck played in seven matches with six starts this season. For his career, Kahlenbeck was a staple in SJU's midfield during his freshman (2017) and sophomore (2018) seasons, totaling six points on a goal and four assists. One of this year's team captains, Kahlenbeck worked his way back from injury (2019) to earn a starting role in the midfield this spring. The 2020-21 Senior CLASS Award candidate graduated with a degree in finance a semester early (December 2020) and is pursuing his master's degree in finance from SJU.

Kahlenbeck and Grana were SJU's goal scorers in the Hawks' 2-0 win over Drexel in the season opener back on February 27; Kahlenbeck buried the penalty kick in the 19th minute for the eventual match-winner while Grana scored SJU's security goal in the 52nd minute. With the win, the duo led SJU to the program's first win over Drexel since 1996.

Grana (2018, 2019, 2021) and Kahlenbeck (2021) are SJU's 18th and 19th A-10 All-Academic Team honorees in program history, joining Ed DeLisle (1991), Pete Walsh (1992), Roy Dumaran (1993), Andy Wallace (1993, 1994, 1995), Mike Blue (1994, 1995), Joe Deily (1994), Dougherty (2001), Matt James (2002, 2003), Tim Brennan (2011, 2012), and Ben Zambetti (2017).
