PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team fell to Carnegie Mellon, 5-2, in a tight match moved indoors to the Alpha Tennis Club on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Ranked fifth in the nation in Division III, Carnegie Mellon (9-0) took the early lead with a pair of doubles victories.  Amanda Nava and Stow Weiss combined for a 6-2 win in the top flight, but the Tartans won the second and third to grab the point.

• Weiss then tied things up for Saint Joseph's (3-4) with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Bin Zheng in the second flight, and Nava put SJU ahead when she outlasted Lindy Cornwall, 7-5, 6-4, in the first.

• CMU drew level with a supertiebreaker win in the third flight before going ahead with a win in the sixth.  The hosts then sealed the overal victory for a pair of supertiebreaker wins in flights four and five.

HAWK TALK
"A very tight contest with some nerve-racking tension," head coach Ian Crookenden said.  "The scores speak for themselves; it could have gone either way.  I'm proud of our team's performance."

The Hawks remain in the Steel City for a matchup with Duquesne on Saturday.
