NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Joseph's freshman outfielder
Brett Callahan was named the Atlantic 10 Baseball Rookie of the Week, the organization announced on Monday afternoon.
Callahan hit safely in all four games the Hawks played last week, checking in with a .562 average and an .812 slugging percentage to go with five runs scored and three driven in as the Hawks earned a four-game split at Rhode Island.
The native of Newark, Delaware, went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, including the winning run, as the Hawks claimed a 6-5 win over the Rams in the series opener on Friday. After going 4-for-8 with a run scored and two driven in during Saturday's doubleheader, Callahan was 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, and a run scored as SJU salvaged the split with a 6-3 victory on Sunday.
Callahan and the Hawks are set to host La Salle in the final series of the regular season; the opener kicks off on Thursday afternoon at Smithson Field.
