Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Overtime Heartbreak for #20 Field Hockey at #9 Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The 20th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team clawed back from a one-goal deficit on three different occasions, but in the end, #9 Maryland came away with a 4-3 double-overtime win at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (1-1) had control of the game early, but it was the hosts that struck first on a tip-in by Emma DeBerdine.

• Manu Ghigliotti answered with her first collegiate goal three minutes later, on an assist from Freke van Tilburg, to draw the Hawks level after one.

• Maryland (1-0) went back ahead less than a minute into the second quarter thanks to a Taylor Mason goal on a corner, but Cassidy Atchison tied things up midway through the frame on a corner goal of her own to send the teams into halftime knotted at two apiece.

• The Terrapins took the lead once early in the third as Margot Lawn tallied with 11:19 to go in the period.

• Celeste Smits came through in the final minute of the third, finding a loose ball and tucking it home for another SJU equalizer.

• The Hawks had the better of it in the first overtime period, but neither team was able to convert on its lone shot on goal.  Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, Bibi Donraadt scored the winner for Maryland in the opening minute of the second extra frame.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• SJU outshot Maryland for the game, 18-16, with a 10-3 advantage in the first half.  The Hawks also earned eight penalty corners to seven for the Terrapins.

• Robin Bleekemolen made eight saves in the cage for the Hawks, while Noelle Frost made seven for the Terrapins.  Maryland also benefited from a pair of defensive saves.
