#17 Field Hockey Holds Off #8 Rutgers, 2-1

MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's field hockey team knocked off its second top-10 team in three days as the 17th-ranked Hawks held on for a 2-1 win over eighth-ranked Rutgers at Ellen Ryan Field on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither team had much in the way of chances in the first quarter as each team registered a single shot and the Hawks earned a pair of penalty corners.  SJU earned two more corners in the second quarter, and on the second attempt, Freke van Tilburg sent in a shot that RU goalkeeper Gianna Glatz got a piece of but couldn't keep out of the cage to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead at halftime.

• Saint Joseph's (4-2) doubled its lead with a minute to go in the third as Manu Ghigliotti juggled a pass from Lily Santi and slotted it home to make it a 2-0 game after three.

• Rutgers (4-1) got back within a goal midway through the fourth as Katie Larmour scored on a penalty corner.  The Scarlet Knights would pull Glatz for an extra attacker with four minutes to go and earned a pair of corners, including one with 12 second to go, but the Hawk defense held firm and sealed the win.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• The Hawks enjoyed an 11-7 shot advantage over the Scarlet Knights, while Rutgers earned seven corners to six for SJU.

• Robin Bleekmolen made three saves for the Hawks, while Glatz finished with three as well.

• Manon van Weezel tallied an assist for SJU, as did Kerrie Burns and Milena Redlingshoefer for the Scarlet Knights.

• The win is the second of the season for the Hawks over a top-10 team; SJU had previously never beaten more than one team ranked in the top-10 in a single season.
