FLUSHING, N.Y. – Jack Kosiorowski and Oscar Serra stunned the top-seeded duo in the doubles draw, highlighting men's tennis' weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Championships held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Facing the No. 1 twosome in the region from Queens on Friday, the senior pair of Kosiorowski and Serra prevailed 7-5 in a tiebreaker in the Round of 32 matchup, and the two would carry that momentum into their Round of 16 matchup later in the day, easily dispatching a team from Stonehill 8-1.
The duo's run came to an end in the Quarterfinals on Saturday, where they were defeated by a twosome from St. Thomas Aquinas, 8-5.
Sophomore Pedro Ramos and freshman Eli Gan-Dy, playing his first collegiate match, also moved on to the Round of 16 in doubles play with an 8-6 triumph over a pair from Franklin Pierce, before succumbing to the six-seed from Queens, 8-4.
Kosiorowski and Serra both won a match in the singles draw as well, sweeping respective opponents from Queens and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Dominican, 6-4, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-3, in the Round of 64.
They were joined in the Round of 32 by Jakob Kalteis after the redshirt-freshman won by walkover, but the trio were all defeated in straight sets, with Serra falling to the three-seed from Franklin Pierce.
Men's tennis plays its lone dual match of the fall on Oct. 10 when it hosts District of Columbia.
