FAIRFAX, Va. –
Erik Reynolds II led three Hawks in double figures with 18 points, but George Mason pulled away from Saint Joseph's in the final minutes for a 77-71 win on Monday evening at EagleBank Arena.
How It Happened
• In a tight first half that featured five ties and six lead changes, the Hawks opened their biggest lead of the contest in the final minutes.
• Tied at 31-31, St. Joe's got back-to-back three-pointers from Reynolds II and
Taylor Funk to open a 37-31 advantage with :34 to play in the period.
• The Patriots beat the first-half buzzer to make it a 37-33 contest at halftime.
• Neither team was able to pull ahead by more than two possessions in the second half, as the final 20 minutes featured seven ties and seven lead changes.
• Saint Joseph's opened its biggest lead of the second stanza, 40-35, on a three-pointer by
Jordan Hall just 50 seconds into the period.
• Hall broke a tie as he put the Hawks up 66-64 on a jumper in the paint at 5:17.
• The Patriots responded and pushed ahead 73-69 on a three-pointer by D'Shawn Schwartz with 1:18 to play.
• Reynolds II finished in the paint to bring Saint Joseph's within 73-71 with 54 seconds to go.
• An offensive rebound and putback by George Mason's Davonte Gaines extended the lead to 75-71.
• The Patriots sealed the contest from the line in the final seconds as Josh Oduro knocked down a pair of free throws.
