Taya DiAngelo has been named an assistant coach for the Saint Joseph's men's rowing program, head coach
Mike Irwin has announced.
DiAngelo comes to Saint Joseph's after serving as an assistant coach with Villanova's women's rowing team the past five years. While with the Wildcats, DiAngelo helped oversee the team's on-water, and land training, while also assisting with recruiting and overall program operations.
"I am really happy that we were able to bring Taya to Hawk Hill! We have crossed paths professionally for many years and her reputation as a teacher and mentor is outstanding," Irwin said. "Our conversations during the interview process were very energizing. Her thoughts and views on team culture, communication, and performance will be a great fit for our student-athletes. It is a significant step to be able to add a new voice to our coaching staff that has already spent eight years as a Division I collegiate coach and another seven years as high school coach. It is a great time to be a Hawk!"
"After eight years of coaching collegiate women, I am thrilled to be tackling a new challenge and joining the St. Joe's men's rowing staff," said DiAngelo. "I am honored that coach Irwin hired me, and cannot wait to continue to learn even more about our sport under his leadership. After only a short time with the team, I can tell they are ready to put in the work it takes to reach the podium, and I am excited to do my part in helping them achieve exactly that."
Prior to Villanova, DiAngelo served as a volunteer assistant with Penn's women's team from 2014-17 helping the Quakers set then program records at the 2017 Ivy League Championships. DiAngelo began her coaching career as an assistant coach at Germantown Academy in 2007 before serving as interim head coach in the spring of 2014.
A four-year letterwinner as a coxswain with the University of San Diego men's rowing team, DiAngelo earned a bachelor's degree in English language and literature in 1999.
