Women’s Basketball Eyes Revenge in Second Matchup Against La Salle

PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's women's basketball is looking for revenge on Wednesday night when it heads to Tom Gola Arena to take on the La Salle Explorers. The game is the second of the two-game series with the Blue & Gold winning the first go around, 69-65. Wednesday's 6 p.m. tipoff will stream nationally on ESPN+ and internationally through the Atlantic 10.
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • The Hawks sit at 6-12 overall and 2-4 A-10 under head coach Cindy Griffin and have dropped their last two games.
  • Freshman Talya Brugler picked up her third Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor in the last four weeks. The award marks the sixth time in 12 weeks the Hawks have claimed the honor and fifth consecutive.
  • SJU is scoring 59.7 points for and allowing 62.7 points against while shooting 40.1% overall, 32.7% from three-point land, and 69.7% from the stripe this season.
  • Graduate student Katie Jekot leads St. Joe's in scoring (10.1), assists (4.6), steals (1.8), and assist to turnover ratio (1.9). Her assists per game rank third in the league. In league games, Jekot has upped her assists (6.2) and assist to turnover ratio (2.1).
  • Brugler is second on the team with 9.2 points per game this season and leads the Crimson & Gray in rebounding with 4.8. She is shooting 50.8% from the floor this season, which is seventh in the league. In conference games, Brugler has upped her game with a team high 14.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg.
  • Freshman Mackenzie Smith ranks third on the team in scoring (8.3) and joins Brugler as the only Hawks to appear in all 18 games this year. A former A-10 Rookie of the Week, Smith leads the Atlantic 10 in three-point field goal percentage (43.8%).
ABOUT LA SALLE:
  • The Explorers are 11-8 overall and 4-3 in league play under head coach Mountain MacGillivray. La Salle is currently on a two-game losing streak after falling to Duquesne and St. Bonaventure.
  • The Blue & Gold are scoring 66.0 points for and allowing 63.2 points against this season, while shooting 37.2% from the floor, 30.2% from long range, and 77.1% from the line.
  • A trio of Explorers are averaging double figure scoring totals on the season, led by Kayla Spruill with 14.8. The Baltimore, Md. native also paces the team in rebounding with 7.8 per outing.
  • Gabby Crawford (13.9) and Claire Jacobs (10.6) round out the top scorers for La Salle.
  • La Salle has started the same lineup in all but one game this season.
