Women’s Basketball Heads to George Mason for Super Bowl Sunday Clash

PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's women's basketball looks to get back in the win column on Sunday when it heads to George Mason. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. with the game streaming nationally on ESPN+ and internationally through the Atlantic 10.
 
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • The Hawks are 8-14 overall and 4-6 in league play after falling to Rhode Island this past Wednesday.
  • Collectively, SJU is scoring 59.3 points for and allowing 62.2 points against, while shooting 40.5% from the floor, 33.4% from deep, and 72.6% from the line.
  • Graduate student Katie Jekot has been a staple in the lineup for SJU this season. The Enola, Pa. native is tied for the team lead with 10.1 points per game and leads the Hawks in assists per game (4.8), assist to turnover ratio (1.83), steals (1.65).
  • Freshman Talya Brugler is the other Hawk tallying double figures this season (10.1). She's scored at least 10 points in 10 of her last 11 games. She leads the Hawks in rebounding (5.5) and field goal percentage (51.8%). Her field goal percentage is fourth best in the entire conference. In league games, Brugler ups her totals to 13.2 ppg and 8.2 rpg with a 52.4 field-goal percentage. The first year has won the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week four times, including the last two.
  • Freshman Mackenzie Smith is third on the team in scoring with 8.5 ppg. She is connecting on 41.7% of shots from long range, which is third best in the A-10. She joins Brugler as the only two Hawks to play in every game this season.
  • Rookie Laila Fair is second on the squad with 4.2 rpg and adds 7.7 ppg. She is shooting at a 53.8% clip and adds a team best 0.75 blocks per game.
  • First year Julia Nyström has become one of the Atlantic 10's best three-point shooters. Since league play has begun, the Hawks top on-ball defender sits atop the conference with a 50.0 three-point field goal percentage, going 14-of-28.
ABOUT GEORGE MASON:
  • The Patriots are 8-14 overall with a 2-8 record in league play this season after dropping their past two contests. Mason's two A-10 victories came against Davidson and GW.
  • Mason is scoring 60.5 points and allowing 68.1 points per game, while shooting 36.8% overall, 27.9% from long range, and 68.8% from the stripe.
  • Four Patriots are recording 9.0 points on average this season, led by a pair with 10.6 or better.
  • Amaya Scott paces the Patriots with 16.5 point and 6.9 rebounds per outing. Of her 22 games played, she's tallied 10+ points in all but three contests.
  • Jordan Wakefield is second in scoring (10.6), followed by Tamia Lawhorne (9.4), and Taylor Jameson (9.0).
