Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's fell to nationally ranked Maryland in the season opener on Saturday, 20-6.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Maryland ripped off four-straight goals to start the game before the Hawks claimed back-to-back scores. Graduate student Rilea Fusco notched her first goal as a Hawk with 4:21 left. A little over a minute later, senior Lauren Figura claimed her first score of the campaign at the 3:02 mark. The visitors added one more before the period's end for a 5-2 lead.
  • The Terps tallied six straight to start the second period before Hawks' rookie Bella Miceli recorded her first career goal on an unassisted score. Maryland would find the back of the net one more time for a 12-3 lead at the half.
  • UMD held a 4-1 margin in the third with lone goal for the Crimson & Gray coming from junior Emma O'Neill.
  • Maryland padded its lead with a 6-2 advantage in the final period. O'Neill and sophomore transfer Sydney Foster recorded the scores.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
  • O'Neill and Foster finished with a team high two points. O'Neill tallied two goals, while foster scored once and assisted once.
  • Figura, Fusco, and Miceli each tallied a score.
  • Junior Lisa Ross picked up an assist.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Jorden Concordia (0-1) made her first career start with 14 saves on 34 shots faced.

St. Joe's will host Lehigh on Wednesday at Sweeney Field.
