ST. LOUIS – Saint Joseph's (9-15, 5-7 A-10) fell Wednesday night at Saint Louis (8-14, 4-6 A-10), 51-46, after a Billikens late comeback.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Louis held the slight advantage into the media break at 3:42 left, 7-6. The Billikens held the one-point margin through the rest of the frame, 6-5, for a 13-11 lead.
- The Hawks knotted things with a 7-5 run over the opening 5:04 with the teams at 18 apiece. SJU took a 25-23 lead into the half after a 7-5 differential to the buzzer. St. Joe's tallied the final five points of the half over a 2:15 while keeping the Billikens scoreless.
- St. Joe's started the scoring with a pair of triples in the third quarter for a 6-4 spurt over the opening 5:55 with the Hawks up 31-27. SLU chipped away with four of the next seven points with the Hawks up, 34-31, after three.
- The Hawks rallied off a 6-2 run over the first 3:58 of the final stanza before SLU called a timeout with SJU up, 40-33. The Billikens tallied an 18-6 advantage to finish the game, including 11-1 over the final three minutes.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
- St. Joe's shot 29.5% (18-of-61) overall, 28.0% (7-of-25) from deep, and 37.5% (3-of-8) from the line.
- Saint Louis went 32.1% (17-of-53) from the floor, 25.0% (5-of-20) from three-point range, and 92.3% (12-of-13) at the stripe.
- SLU won the rebounding battle (+3) with the turnover margin even.
- Rookie Julia Nyström tallied a team high 13 points on a 5-of-13 day and corralled four rebounds.
- Freshman Mackenzie Smith recorded 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting.
- Sophomore Olivia Mullins handed out five assists to just two turnovers.
