EWING, N.J. – Oscar Serra won twice in the USciences men's tennis team's spring-opening 6-3 loss at The College of New Jersey on Saturday.
The Devils fell short in a tiebreaker at both No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles, which ultimately proved to be the difference in the final result.
Serra now lead USciences in both doubles (4-2 with Jack Kosiorowski) and singles (3-2) victories after teaming with Kosiorowski for an 8-5 triumph at No. 1 doubles, before winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, at the second flight.
Heimraj Resaul was also victorious, in his first singles dual match of the season, bouncing back from a 0-6 second set to take the super-tiebreaker at the sixth flight, 10-7.
Eli Gan-Dy was on the wrong side of tiebreakers in both singles in doubles play. In the freshman's first-ever match with Borna Markusic, the pair was edge 8-7 (4) at No. 2 doubles. He would then go on to fall 8-10 in a third-set super-tiebreaker in his first-ever No. 3 singles match, after he had prevailed 7-4 in a second-set tiebreaker.
A No. 5 singles, Markusic was unfortunately forced to retire prior to a third-set super-tiebreaker.
University of the Sciences take three weeks off before opening up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play at Dominican on Saturday, March 12.
