Women’s Basketball to Host GW for Senior Day on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's women's basketball will host George Washington on Sunday for Senior Day. The Hawks will recognize graduate students Alayna Gribble and Katie Jekot, along with seniors Lovin Marsicano and Katie Mayock prior to the 2 p.m. tip.
 
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • The Hawks are 9-15 overall and 5-7 in league play after falling in Saint Louis on Wednesday.
  • St. Joe's is scoring 58.4 points for and allowing 61.0 points against, while shooting 39.6% overall, 32.6% from long range, and 71.5% from the line.
  • Freshman Talya Brugler claimed her fifth overall and third consecutive Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week award after averaging 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game against Rhode Island and George Mason.
  • Brugler is leading the Hawks in scoring (10.1) and rebounding (5.4), while field goal percentage (50.0%) ranks eighth in the A-10. She's tallied 13+ points in 11 of her last 13 games. In league play, her totals bump to 13.1 ppg, 7.6 rpg, and a 49.6% from the floor.
  • Rookie Mackenzie Smith is the second active leading scorer for St. Joe's with 8.5 points per game. She's connecting on 39.7% of her three-pointer attempts this season, which ranks fourth in the league. Smith joins Brugler as the only Hawks to play in all 24 games this season.
  • First year Laila Fair has returned from injury and has been a presence in the Hawks' starting lineup. The Middlesex, N.J. native is recording 7.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. She's connecting on 52.9% of her shots, which is fourth best in the league.
  • Freshman Julia Nyström has become one of the Atlantic 10's best three-point shooters. Since league play began, she's shooting 45.9% from deep for third best in the A-10.
ABOUT GEORGE WASHINGTON:
  • The Colonials are 11-14 overall and 4-8 in conference games and a riding a four-game win streak. The group is led by first-year head coach Caroline McCombs.
  • Collectively, the Colonials are tallying 52.0 points and allowing 55.3 points while shooting 34.5% from the floor, 27.0% from deep, and 63.0% at the stripe.
  • Eight different players are averaging at least 5.0 points per game, with none in double figures.
  • Sheslanie Laureano is pacing the team with 9.0 points per game.
  • Mayowa Taiwo tops the Colonials with 8.2 rebounds per outing and is second in scoring (7.9).
