Box Score 2 PHILADELPIHA – In their first career appearances, freshmen Ian Glass and Ishaan Patel combined to go the distance in a 5-4 game-two triumph at defending Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) champion Bloomsburg on Monday, meaning the two teams split for the second day in a row.
This came after a late Devils rally was not enough in a 4-2 game one loss.
Fellow freshman Josh Yang reached base four times in his first two collegiate appearances, finishing 2-for-4 with two-hit-by-pitches, a double, a run and an RBI.
Game Two
University of the Sciences' three-run fifth proved to be just enough, as the Devils held off a late Bloomsburg push that featured two runs in both the fifth and sixth.
After both teams failed threaten in their first two at-bats, USciences took its first lead of the day thanks to two errors in the third.
Yang's first career collegiate RBI, a double, then doubled the advantage in the fourth.
Glass did not allow a runner to reach scoring position through the first four frames, and the Devils finally broke through in the fifth beginning with Joe Duffy's leadoff single.
Eddie Parry then walked before Evan Sinclair greeted a new pitcher with an RBI double.
Following the first out, Adam Estrada drove in what turned out to be the winning runs on a two-RBI double.
Bloomsburg finally got to Glass in the fifth as two hit-by-pitches and a walk led to a two-out, two-RBI single.
He was then lifted with one out and runners on second and third in the sixth, and although the Huskies managed to make it a one-run game with an RBI groundout and a run on a wild pitch, Patel preserved the lead entering the seventh.
After a scoreless top-half, Patel stranded runners on first and second with back-to-outs to earn the save after allowing just one hit against in his 1.2 innings.
Glass earned the win after giving up just three hits in his 5.1 frames.
Offensively, Yang reached base in all three plate appearances with the double and two hit-by-pitches.
Game One
Trailing 4-0 entering the sixth, Duffy led off with a triple before being singled home by Parry.
An error then led to two on with nobody out, but Hunter Parish's sacrifice fly to cut the deficit in half was all the Devils could manage.
Bloomsburg plated one run in each of the second through fifth frames, and USciences stranded runners in scoring position in both the third and fifth before finally breaking through.
Ben Bradt kept the Devils in it in his first career collegiate appearance, surrendering three earned on six hits in his four innings.
Ryan Hess then came on in relief to face the minimum across his two hitless frames.
Both teams had just six hits in the seven-inning contest, with Duffy finishing 2-for-3.
Yang notably recorded his first career collegiate hit.
