PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After a comeback victory against Penn State last Saturday, Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse heads on the road for the first time this season to take on the Providence Friars. Providence looks to build on a decisive win over Siena last Saturday. Opening faceoff is set for noon from Chapey Field.

ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • Despite trailing 8-6 at the half, Saint Joseph's stormed back in the third quarter, outscoring the Nittany Lions 7-1 in the third quarter. Matt Bohmer led the Hawks' scoring efforts with five.
  • With the win, the Hawks received votes in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll for the first time this season.
  • Bohmer has scored 11 goals this season to go along with five assists. The junior has already scored one-third of the goals he scored last season over the first three games.
  • Zach Cole continues to dominate on faceoffs, winning 58 of his 82 opportunities this season. The senior also leads the team in ground balls, scooping up 34. His faceoff winning percentage and ground ball per game (11.3) both rank second best in the nation.
  • Goalie Tucker Almany (2-1) has made 34 saves this season, saving 48.6% of the shots he has faced thus far.
  • The last time these two teams played, in 2020, then-freshman Matt Bohmer scored four goals to lead the Hawks.
ABOUT PROVIDENCE:
  • Providence is currently 2-1, beating both Holy Cross and Siena, by a combined 12 goals. The team's lone defeat was to NEC favorite Bryant, falling 19-7.
  • Graduate student Evan McGreen and senior Matt Grillo share the top spot for goals this season with nine each.
  • Freshman midfielder Ryan Bell has gotten off to a flying start this season for the Friars. The Port Jefferson, N.Y. native leads the team with 11 assists, more than doubling the next highest player. 
  • The team has utilized three different goaltenders this season, but senior Michael Harris has started in all of Providence's three games. The senior has made 51 saves with a .586 save percentage.
  • Head coach Chris Gabrielli is in the midst of his tenth season coaching the program.
MATCHUP NOTES:
  • The Hawks and Friars have played each other a total of five times in the two programs' respective histories. 
  • Providence has come away with victories in three of the five matchups. Most recently, the Hawks came away with a victory at Sweeney Field, 10-8.
