BALTIMORE, Md. – A four-run first inning powered UMBC to a 5-4 win over the Saint Joseph's baseball team on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• UMBC (1-3) chalked up a four-spot in the bottom of the first to take an early lead.
• Saint Joseph's (2-2) cut the deficit in half in the second on a two-run single by
Brett Callahan.
• The Hawks got within one on a solo home run by
Andrew Cossetti, his first of the season, in the top of the third.
• The Retrievers tacked one on via a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Brendan Hueth led off the eighth with a double before
Ryan Cesarini tripled him home, but he was stranded on third and the Hawks could not close the gap in the ninth.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE

Ian McCole got the start for the Hawks, allowing five runs, four of them earned, on seven hits in six innings.Â
Matt McShane threw two innings of shutout relief.
• Luke Johnson started for UMBC, tossing four innings, before Evan Selmer allowed one run over five innings to earn the win.
