Baseball Outhits East Stroudsburg; Swept by Warriors

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – After stranding the tying runner on base in the final inning of a 4-3 game one loss, the USciences baseball team jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the nightcap of a doubleheader at East Stroudsburg on Tuesday.

The Warriors would however come back to win game two 15-7 to complete the sweep, despite the Devils outhitting ESU 19-17 across the two contests.

Game One

Trailing 4-1 entering the sixth, University of the Sciences had the potential tying run reach base in the seventh.

Evan Sinclair's single to lead off the sixth led to USciences making it a 4-2 game on a Vince Cammisa's fielder's choice, and after reliever Ryan Hess worked a 1-2-3 bottom-half, AJ Pena's triple to lead off the seventh led to the Devils making one final push.

Pena Scored on an error on the next play, but University of the Sciences could not take advantage of the tying run reaching base as ESU ended game one with back-to-back outs.

Eddie Parry opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first, one of two homers on the day to move him into a tie for eighth in program history with eight for his career.

East Stroudsburg (11-2) plated two on one hit in the bottom-half though, thanks in large part to a leadoff walk, and the Warriors would lead throughout despite finishing with just two hits.

ESU scored its two other runs in the second and the fifth without the benefit of a hit, with both innings beginning with a base on balls.

Starter Ian Glass surrendered just two hits in his four frames, but he struggled with six walks.

Hess came on with two on and nobody out in the fifth and proceeded to limit the Warriors to just the one run on a sacrifice fly as he faced the minimum with six consecutive outs.

University of the Sciences, who outhit ESU 7-2, had runners reach in each of the second through fifth innings to no avail.

Sinclair, Pena and Parry all finished with two hits, one extra-base hit and run, as Sinclair followed Parry's homer in the first with a one-out double, only to be stranded.

Game Two

Both teams had solo home runs in the first, with Parry opening the scoring once again, before University of the Sciences broke out for four runs in the second.

Cammisa and Eli Agostini led off with back-to-back singles, and doubles by Hunter Parish and Joe Duffy sandwiched a Pena single to put the Devils ahead 4-1.

Parish's two-bagger broke the tie before Duffy's plated both Parish and Pena, and he would come in for the four-run advantage on an error.

East Stroudsburg quickly responded with two runs in the bottom-half though, before breaking the game open with a six-run third.

Five Devils finished with multiple hits in the nightcap led by Agostini's third career three-hit performance.

Duffy (three RBI), Parry (two RBI) Parish (two runs) and Pena (two runs) all added two hits apiece.
