WILMINGTON, Del. – After claiming the seventh seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship, Saint Joseph's will take on 10
th-seeded Duquesne in a rematch of the season finale. The Hawks and Dukes tipoff Thursday at 5 p.m. from the CHASE Fieldhouse in Wilmington, Delaware.
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
- The Hawks finished the regular season 11-16 overall and 7-8 in league play.
- To no surprise, St. Joe's brought home plenty of rookie accolades when the A-10 announced its postseason awards before the start of the Atlantic 10 Championship.
- Talya Brugler was voted the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year after leading the Hawks in scoring (10.2) and rebounding (5.6) through the end of the regular season. She is joined by her classmates Mackenzie Smith, Laila Fair, and Julia Nyström to make up 80% of the conference's five-player All-Rookie Team.
- SJU tallied 58.3 points and allowed 60.2 points per game, while shooting 39.6% overall, 33.5% from deep, and 71.4% from the line.
- Brugler, a six-time A-10 Rookie of the Week, finished sixth in the league with a 50.2 field goal percentage. She tallied 15 double-digit scoring efforts, including 12 of St. Joe's 15 A-10 matchups. In league games this season, Brugler upped her totals to 12.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest, shooting 50.0% from the field.
- Katie Jekot is second on the squad with 10.1 ppg and leads SJU with 4.9 assists and a 1.91 assist to turnover ratio. She ranks third in the league in assists per game and fourth in assist to turnover ratio. She's tallied at least four assists in 15 of her 21 games.
- Smith, a two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week selection, is third with 9.6 points per game. The East Jordan, Nova Scotia native was third in the entire league with a 41.0 three-point field goal percentage. In league contests, Smith bumped her scoring and rebounding efforts to 11.7 points and 4.2 rebounds, respectively. She joins Brugler as the only two Hawks to play in every game this season.
ABOUT DUQUESNE:
- The Dukes are 11-17 on the season with a 6-10 record in A-10 play.
- Duquesne is scoring 64.4 points for and 64.5 points against on average, while shooting 40.6% from the floor, 32.5% from three-point range, and 68.9% from the stripe.
- Eight Dukes are recording at least 5.0 points per game and are led by a duo in double digits.
- Tess Myers (12.6) and Fatou Pouye (12.4) are the top scorers.
- Megan McConnell paces the team in rebounds (6.5) and assists (4.1).
LAST TIME THEY MET:
- In the regular season finale, the Hawks topped the Dukes, 73-68 in Pittsburgh.
- Smith tallied a career and game high 26 points for the Hawks.
