HAWORTH, N.J. – In a field featuring six of the top-11 teams in the region, the USciences golf team was in fifth place following the first round of the Battle at the Beech, hosted at White Beeches Golf & Country Club, on Monday.
Entering the second and final round on Tuesday, the Devils were ahead of the likes of regionally-ranked Assumption, Dominican and Saint Anselm.
University of the Sciences would finish the two-day tournament 10th amongst 12 teams, more than 30 strokes ahead of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foes Felician and Jefferson. The Devils were just one shot behind ninth-place Adelphi.
USciences recorded a team total of 322 on Monday, now tied for the ninth-lowest team round in recorded program history (since Fall 2009).The Devils have now carded seven of the 10-lowest team rounds in recorded program history this season.
University of the Sciences' top-four golfers – Thomas Larkin, Matthew McCaffrey, Adam Chen and Joseph Kepic - were all in the top-half of the field following the conclusion of play on Monday.
Larkin would lead the Devils in the tournament, tying for a 25th in the field of 66 with a two-day total of 163 that included a team-best 79 on Monday that placed him in a tie for 13th.
McCaffrey was also in the top-20 after a collegiate-best round of 80 on Monday, and he would secure a spot in the top-half of the field with an 84 today.
Chen and Kepic both carded two-day totals of 168, including shooting respective rounds of 81 and 82 yesterday.
Tyler Blake rounded out University of the Sciences' results with a 182.
The Devils take a week off before returning to the course for the first round of another tournament, West Chester's Dr. Edwin Cottrell Invitational, on Monday, April 4.
